About the series

In Hunter Cole's Bioluminescent Weddings series, people are posed for wedding photographs by the light of bioluminescent bacteria. Some of the photographs explore same-sex marriage.

Roses are drawn on the Petri dishes with bioluminescent bacteria. Roses are one of the favorite flowers for weddings. A red rose symbolizes passion. Blue roses symbolize love, prosperity, or immortality. Blue roses have been created with genetic engineering.

One of the functions of bioluminescence in nature is to attract a mate. This series is part of Living Light: Photographs by the Light of Bioluminescent Bacteria.
